Orange Habanero Bonchi….

Following on from my Bonchi article….. I thought I’d show you all an up to date picture of my orange Habanero Bonchi, which as you can see, now has 4 ripe pods ! I will pick these, and enjoy them in a salad. The plant can then get on with growing a bit more foliage πŸ™‚

UPDATE: Following Spicemad’s comment, regarding wether the seeds would grow normal plants…i thought it was only right to try. So I have sown 4 seeds straight from the fresh pods, as an experiment…so we shall see ! πŸ™‚

  1. That’s a nice looking specimen, Iggy. I’m quite partial to an Orange Hab. :-p

Would the seeds from those pods still grow into good sized plants? If so, I have me a brainwave.

  2. I’ll always have a soft spot for Orange hab…the pods are normal size, so the seeds should be quite normal. What have you got in mind mate ??

  3. Well I was just thinking that if the seeds from those pods will grow into normal sized plants, that they would be a great way for getting true to type seeds, because with the plants being small, they are not too difficult to isolate. Obviously I’m just speaking from a home grower / hobbyist point of view here, but many times you can’t be sure what you’re getting when people send you seeds. It reminds me a bit of Tom Hanks in Forest Gumpβ€”life is like a booox of chocolates, yuuu never knowww what yerrr gonna get LOL. πŸ˜€

What do you think? It’s probably a stupid idea in reality, but if it’s stupidity you’re after … then they don’t come any more stupid than spicemad! πŸ™‚

  4. I don’t think it’s stupid mate…I think it’s a great idea !! πŸ™‚

  5. I’m famous. I’ve appeared on Iggy’s Chillis. … I can’t believe it! πŸ˜€

At a guess I’d say that maybe they would grow normal plants, but over time (a good few years later) there could be a possibility that things had changed? You could plant an orange hab seed and end up with an oak tree, or an ickle baby bonchi.
